Entering and managing metadata about the coffee sample

The Lot Info screen lets you attach detailed metadata to your analysis file, describing the coffee sample's origin, processing method, quality parameters, and other characteristics. This information is stored in the HDF5 file and included in exported reports.

Prerequisites

  • An open analysis file.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

1. Open the Metadata Form

Navigate to the Lot Info screen from the sidebar. The form loads with any previously saved metadata from the current analysis file.

2. Fill In Sample Details

The form is organized into expandable tabs covering different metadata categories. Over 30 fields are available:

Category
Example Fields

Sample Identification

Sample Type, Lot Number, Batch ID

Origin

Country, Region, Farm, Altitude

Coffee Characteristics

Species, Variety, Processing Method, Harvest Year

Quality Parameters

Grade, Screen Size, Moisture Content, Water Activity

Commercial

Buyer, Seller, Contract Number, Price

3. Select from Predefined Options

Most fields offer dropdown selectors with predefined values (e.g., Species: Arabica, Robusta, Liberica). Select from the list or type a custom value.

4. Add Custom Values

If a needed option is not in the predefined list:

  1. Type the new value in the field.

  2. Click Add to append it to the selection list.

  3. The new option becomes available for future use.

Custom values are saved to the application's option lists, so they persist across analysis files and sessions.

5. Save Metadata

Click Save to write all metadata to the HDF5 file. A toast notification confirms the save succeeded.

6. Clear and Reset

Use the Clear button to reset all fields to their default empty state. A confirmation dialog appears before clearing to prevent accidental data loss.

Configuration Persistence

All metadata is stored directly in the HDF5 analysis file. When you open a file that already has lot information, the form is pre-populated with the saved values.
